What happens if you bruise a tattoo

Though you can never completely eradicate the pain of receiving a new tattoo, you can significantly decrease it by making sure your skin does not have recent scars or bruising in that tattoo area.

When your body is bruised, the tissue below your skin has been disrupted and is trying to heal itself from the impact that led to the bruise in the first place. Bruises are a physical representation of the damaged blood cells that are deep below your skin. When you get a tattoo, you can expect around a three-to-four week healing process.

During that time, you should wash your new tattoo with an unscented antibacterial soap twice a day and apply an unscented lotion several times every day as well. This stuff works amazingly well during the healing process; not only by keeping your tattoo really well hydrated but also by soothing any annoying itching and irritation. When using it from the very start of the healing process, this lotion will help to decrease tattoo healing times and work towards eliminating any lingering dryness and scabbing.

Your new tattoo will typically lead to peeling skin, some irritation, and possible bruising or redness during the healing process.

If you had a bruise in the area at the time of the tattoo, the healing process could more easily lead to an infection. Some of you have a tattoo planned or already scheduled, but due to some activity, sport, or outright hijinks you now not-so-proudly wear a bruise on the intended area of your tattoo.

Can you still proceed, or do you have to wait until it heals? Given that the latter may throw off your plans travel, etc.

Tattoos hurt, and when you add a bruise to the equation the experience will certainly be more uncomfortable. Some of you can deal with it without issue, while others not so much. In our article about where on the body to get a tattoo , we list highly sensitive areas, which include the following:.

In fact, if you have a low threshold for pain, getting tattooed on even the fleshier parts of your body may present an extremely uncomfortable experience. If this is you, wait for a week until your bruise and sensitivity has subsided. If however, they need to shade the area with varying tones along the black and grey spectrum then the design can certainly be impacted by a bruise.

If the latter is the case do your artist a favor and wait until the color has returned to norm. It's a tattoo inspired by the show Avatar: The Last Airbender. The two koi fish are Tui and La which are physical forms of the moon and ocean spirits. They are the same concept as yin and yang like the other user said.

I've always loved the concept of yin and yang and the balance and harmony that the symbol represents. This tattoo was a combination of that and my love for the show. Thanks for asking and being so kind. I really appreciate the advice. Obviously, it was a huge mistake on my part to go to someone so inexperienced. I absolutely should have known better and I'm very upset with myself about that.

I ended up speaking to the artist about my problems with the piece and went in today to talk to a way more experienced artist at the shop about touching up the tattoo once it is fully healed. Thank you for being so kind with your response it really means a lot. I'm hopeful that it can be touched up to look cleaner and more like what I expected. I'm sure I will learn to love it over time no matter what happens.
